Mindset

As we enter tournament season, emotions can range from excitement to nervousness. Many worry about performing in front of a crowd or making mistakes. At USKSA, we believe that competing builds resilience and enhances martial arts skills. To overcome fears, it's essential to check your mindset—is it fixed or growth?

Dr. Carol Dweck, author of Mindset, highlights the impact that these ways of thinking have on success. In a fixed mindset, abilities are seen as static; in a growth mindset, they can improve through effort. “The view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life," Dweck states. Embracing a growth mindset transforms challenges into opportunities for learning and growth. A growth mindset also encourages martial artists to value the journey over the outcome.

Did you know that Mindset is part of the USKSA Black Sash Leadership Book Club list? We've carefully curated this list and created worksheets to support your journey toward becoming the best version of yourself.
