Life is complicated, even from a young age. Children face a world of uncertainty, over-stimulation with media, increased pressure in sports and academics and challenging social situations. Maintaining good emotional and mental health requires purposeful actions to that end. Martial arts class is one of the ways in which a parent can help their child maintain good mental health.
You might wonder how learning how to kick and punch could possibly benefit mental and emotional health. The answer can be found in the fact that human mental and physical well-being are tied very closely to one another.
A few examples to consider:
Have you ever had a moment of frustration lead you to punch a wall? Hopefully not, but, if you have, you understand the cathartic benefits of the physical action. The only harm may be your fist and the door or wall you punch, but in the end, your frustration is lessened or dissipated, and your mental clarity returns to you, so you can go into problem-solving mode. Spending time in kids martial arts class provides a regular release of this mental or emotional build up so your child can maintain a more consistent and level state of mind.
Have you ever had a long run, or an intense physical workout boost your mood? Physical exertion releases endorphins. Endorphins are a hormone our body naturally creates in response to various stimulus. A thrill ride such as a roller coaster, enjoying an activity you love, spending time with people you love, laughing, and yes, working out! The physical activity of martial arts class will release endorphins, so your child can enjoy an immediate improved mood. With regular attendance, those levels of endorphins will be regularly stimulated for long-term benefits.
Have you ever been in a slump where maybe you are less than thrilled about your job, or your social life or otherwise? If so, have you been able to come out of that slump by joining a club, team, or volunteering? When you join a group of like-minded individuals, doing something you enjoy, there are many emotional and mental lifts to be had. From the feeling of accomplishment to the gaining of new friends and connecting with people, it is an all-around good thing for children to join in extracurricular activities. Your child will gain those feelings along with the sense of belonging and connection we all need as human beings. If you’re interested in a full character development program that is a fun extracurricular activity, we urge you to consider our children’s martial arts program. We offer a free semi-private class, so you and your child can check us out. Call today to schedule your free class!
