Finding family activities that satisfy the adults and the children of varying ages can be a challenge. What excites your 6-year-old is likely to bore your 12-year-old – and vice versa.
There’s one exception that we know of – and that’s the USKSA Family Martial Arts Program!  Our family program focuses on character development for every age.

Studying and practicing martial arts is fun for people of all ages. It’s a great way to learn something new, get in shape, and discover common ground with your family. The deep connections you’ll develop as you identify and conquer goals, together, will be for a lifetime! Read some of the many benefits of practicing martial arts as a family.

1. Making Health & Wellness a Priority is Good for the Whole Family

Parents sometimes struggle to make time in their busy schedules for exercise.  While at the same time, many kids would be content spending their days sitting in front of video games and YouTube.
The solution?
Enrolling the entire family in the Family martial arts program at US Kuo Shu Academy! As parents, we set a great example by practicing what we preach about exercise. Kids will have a chance to burn off some of the excess energy, and the whole family can improve their health and wellness by getting regular workouts.

2. Finding Common Ground Brings Us Closer

When we do things together as a family, we build strong bonds that bring us closer. In family martial arts, we all train as a group and pursue similar goals. In your free time, you’ll be able to talk about what you’ve learned. You may decide to practice together as a family at home – and you can attend competitions or go see the latest martial arts movie together. These things can all help you find common ground with one another. BONUS: a common ground that is not rooted in screen time!

3. Character Development Programs Improve Interpersonal Relationships

Character development is the core of what we learn in class. Our expert instructors use the martial arts as a vehicle to teach self-discipline, respect, confidence, and focus. We go far beyond the physical movements you’ll be working to master. In fact, practicing self-control, courtesy, and persistence will help you in every area of your life.  Families who study martial arts together find that their ability to focus on what’s important improves as a result. You’ll all learn to be aware of each other’s needs and to respect one another. Those are important lessons for kids, siblings, and parents.

4. Keep the Family Close

As children grow older, they gain more independence. While this is the desired result of raising children, it can be challenging to find time together as a family. Everyone has their own activities, their own interests, and their own friends. By the time you hit the teenage years, the kids spend most of their time out of the house or in their bedroom. Adding this fun, regularly scheduled bit of family time to your lives can be a wonderful way to stay tuned in to each other.

5. Practicing Martial Arts is Fun!

Family activities should always be fun, and martial arts classes are!  At USKSA, martial arts class is a social event combined with a great workout. Enjoy making friends with like-minded families. We often learn about lifelong friendships made right here in Marriottsville and Owings Mills!

We get a boost of feel-good hormones after class and the whole family will be smiling. Kids who might balk at doing a “boring” family activity will look forward to learning how to execute perfect kicks and punches or break a board with their fists. You won’t have to worry about whether the whole family will enjoy studying martial arts – they will!

Make family time a priority. Sign up today for family martial arts at US Kuo Shu Academy, you won’t regret it.
